'REM MAPS' MAPPING GEAR THROUGH THE YEARS - 5

Ph: REM MAPS

RUGGED TABLET - 2016
Very eager to switch to a rugged tablet but still not sure about spending thousands of EUR I find an unbelievable deal just before leaving for Canada. This rugged tablet from US is under 100 USD but it looks exactly what I need. I try my luck and ship it to the Canadians that will host me. Armor is a success, finally an anti-glare screen let me map in open areas even on sunny days. Internal GPS is not the best so I keep using the old HOLUX. As soon as I realize this is the one I buy a couple more to have extra batteries: with under 200 USD I'm ready for years to come (and Adrian send me a couple more of its units that he doesn't use). I choose the best 6 batteries to carry with me and I make this rule: a day of survey must last at least 4 batteries. The internal stylus works good (in hundred days of survey problems on a couple of days only). The first stylus stops working after two years and I switch to the second one (and last one) while on the net I try to search for alternatives (without luck). In the meanwhile I buy a spare HOLUX gps (1 EUR :-) plus shipment).
In October 2016 a new laptop for home drawing is needed (orthophotos and lidar are big data to process): I buy from England a Toshiba with Intel i7 chip (second hand - 390 GBP). 13.3" screen is enough for evening drawing but at home and if possible during mapping I plug a bigger screen.
In 2018 I must surrender to presbyopia and I start wearing glasses while surveying.
