'REM MAPS' MAPPING GEAR THROUGH THE YEARS - 6

Ph: REM MAPS

SECOND REVOLUTION - 2020
After some disillusion in orienteering governing bodies (Italian Federation under external administration and IOF publishing a disappointing ISSprOM) I decide to 'move my ass', if I don't like what the others are doing I do something new myself. I try OpenOrienteering Mapper on my new Android mobile (Samsung Galaxy A40 - 200 EUR). Last time I tried Mapper on a tablet (2014) the drawing wasn't smooth and together with the daily habit to use OCAD (where I was very expert) I decided not to go that direction. Now it is love at first sight: I finish the last jobs with ocad and I start a new era. Drawing on the 5.9" Android screen is very accurate even with a cheap stylus (1 EUR from Chinese shop). I have to learn a new way of drawing but after a few days I'm already good and carrying 140g instead of 2kg (tablet and batteries) is something unbelievable. Android internal GPS (with Galileo) is good enough to dismiss old HOLUX so I have even less weight to carry (so important for me travelling without a car and being somehow weak in my legs and back). I also found another stylus (the one in 201X picture) that works better than the Chinese one.
OpenOrienteering Mapper has brought new life to my mapping and I'm more than ready for new challenges, waiting the third revolution, a sub-metric GPS under 400 EUR :-) (coming soon).
